STYLE 101: How to Put Together an Outfit

hi everyone and welcome back to mychannel my name is Lena if you're newtoday I'm going to be sharing with youat my five-step process for puttingtogether my outfits I know that this maynot work for every single person justkids everyone has different style andeveryone has different tastes but thisis just the way that I put my outfitstogether every day and I'm hopefully youguys learn something new and get some inspell so let's get started so the firststep in choosing your outfit is dressingfor the weather for the occasion andyour mood this could seem extremelyobvious but I forget to check theweather like all the time like I nevertrack the weather honestly in Texasweather it's super bipolar and it couldbe raining one day snowing the next likeall four seasons in one day it's justlike crazy yes definitely check theweather see what's appropriate for thatday you also want to dress for theoccasion so I've done it so many timeswhere I show up to an event and I'm likeway overdressed or I'm not dressed upenough so these are just learnings frommy own experiences your mood itdefinitely plays a role in a way thatyou dress so this could reflect thecolors that you wear kind of just seewhat you're in the mood for after youfigured out all those factors then we'llmove on to actually choosing your outfitthe next step is to choose an initialstarting piece to your outfit so Ialways start with a top or bottom youcan also start with an accessory if youreally wanted to or a hijab but for meit's a lot harder to plan my outfitaround an accessory or a hijab ratherthan like a foundational piece like mytop or bottom so for the purpose of thisvideo I'm just gonna share with you myprocess so I always start with either atop or a bottom and then we go fromthere after you've chosen your firstitem like super easy choose one itemafter that we're going to choose oursecondary item that complements thefirst so there's a few rules that I gobyin choosing my second item you want tokeep in mind a balance whenever you arechoosing your second item so you want tobalance color you want to balancepattern and you also want to balanceyour proportions if you chose the firstpiece that have color in it then for meI just usually like to balance out therest of my own with more Mutual's if youchose a neutral piece for your first oneconsider adding more colorsame thing with pattern if you chose thepatterning piece for your first onedefinitely it balance it out with solidsvice versa and then for a proportion ifyou chose a looser item for your firstone making sure that the second pieceyou choose has a little bit more shapeto it and vice versa if you chose atighter piece for your first option atjust making sure the second one is alittle bit more loose that we can have areally good balance and proportion toyour outfit but this first outfit myfirst starting case were these pair ofwhite legburnt orange pants so since there are acolors and their burnt orange I reallywanted to balance it out with someneutrals so I chose a white top and thenalso to balance proportion since theyaren't like super wide leg I wanted topick out a top that would kind ofbalance it out and be a little bit moreform-fitting and something I could tuckin and show kind of like a waistline andgive a little bit more proportion andshape to the outfit I also love thesepuffed out sleeves I think this gives areally beautiful shape to the wholesilhouette of the outfit so that is howI chose okay so now we have an initialstarting piece we have a second piece tocomplement our next step is to add thatthird piece so the third piece is thatpiece that really it brings together theoutfit and makes you look really pulledtogether the third piece could beanything from a blazer to invest to atrench coatany kind of outerwear it can even be areally nice accessory like a crossbodybag or a bail thinking that just makesyou look like you put more thought andeffort into your outfit and makes youlook really pull together for my thirdpiece for this outfit I chose to put alittle cream belt with it just to kindof pull the whole look together I thinkif you are tucking in your top and youhave belt loops it really does lookreally really flattering if you put alittle belt with it so I think that'ssuper cute a last step is toso that is choosing your jewelry yourbag shoes and a job so for jewelry Ialways like to match up my metal there'sdefinitely a way to mix metals andbelieve me I love that look as well butif you don't really know what looks goodand what doesn't and you're just kind oflost then matching up all of your metalsin your outfit will really help bringthe whole look together any kind ofmetal or hardware in your outfit ifyou're matching it all up it reallymakes the outfit look really cohesiveand put together for accessories likeyour bag and shoes you could match yourbag in your shoes and that'll pulltogether the outfit as well if you haveany other accessories though I wouldn'tmatch like your hijab to your belt toyour bag to your shoes I wouldn't matchall of that together because it's justgonna look way too matchy-matchy I kindof just stick to imagined to accessoriesbecause after that it kind of gets toomatchy-matchy so I will just kind of mixand match neutrals after that so foraccessories for this outfit I'm gonna goahead and here at cream bags I have myclean beltand I think matching to accessories andyour whole outfit kind of pulls the looktogether but other than that sometimesit can get a little too matchy-matchy sofor me like the max it's usually twoaccessories that I match so my bag in mybelts and then I have these kind of likepinky and nude flats and that is thefinished look for my side job so youguys know I'm a huge fan of a neutralhijab i literally just to pick on herjob like right before I walk out thedoor because I like to make sure thatI'm loving what I'm wearing and then I'mobsessed with like my actual outfit andthen my hijab just kind of complementsit and kind of seamlessly blends withthe outfit and it's not necessarily likethe standout piece or like the pop ofcolor or anything you might outfitthat's just the way that I like to dressI know there's so many of you guys outthere who love wearing colorful jobs orprinted new jobs so just keeping in mindthat balance that I talked about earlierif you're wearing a colorful job justkind of mixing more neutrals in youroutfit to kind of tone it down make sureit's not too much and then also ifyou're wearing a pattern and making surethat you're wearing a little bit moresolids in your outfit just to kind ofbalance it out so another exampleso for this outfit I chose these widelike jeans as my first piece I justpaired a basic white top the one that Iwas wearing earlier this just gives areally a neutral like simple base tobuild upon for this outfit so I couldliterally create whatever kind of anoutfit I wanted just by having tworeally basic pieces are 2 mutual piecesit definitely just gives you a lot ofoptions when it comes to third piecesand accessory for this look I reallywant to add that third piece to make itlook a little bit more special and havea little bit more modesty so what I'mgonna do is add a blazer I love that Ican just kind of play around withpatterns and add a little bit more colorto of this outfit with this blazer sofor accessories I'm adding a nude bagand some white shoes so this is anexample of how I kind of like to mix andmatch my neutrals and my accessoriesthat way everything is not toomatchy-matchy since I do have a goldbuttons in this jacket it's important tome that I match up the rest of my metalso I have gold hardware on my bag andalso have all jewelry on so this is thefinished look for this next example Ireally wanted to share with you guys abalancing pattern and also a balancingproportion so I picked this kind offlared a line skater dress I thinkthat's what it's called but it basicallyhas a lot more shape and volume aroundthe skirt area so you definitely want tofind a bottom piece that has a littlebit more structure and tailor to it sowhat I mean by balancing like tie itwith loose it doesn't have to be likeskin-tightmaking sure that it's just a little bitmore tailored I like for example I wouldnot wear like some wide leg pants withthis top personally just because I feellike it doesn't give itgood overall proportion and shape to thelooked and also since this was mystarting piece and it was a pattern justbalancing it and having a solid on thebottom I kind of went with a moremonochrome look with this one I thinkit's really a pretty first summer andI'm keeping with the monochrome look Ihave my white little mules that I'mgonna add to this outfit and then mynude bags this is kind of like my thirdpiece I feel like things it is kind oflike a pop of not really color but sinceit is a monochrome look it's pop of nudekind of like tagged out put together soI feel like this is my third piece aswell as my accessory so this is thefinished look for this one I hope youguys enjoyed it these tips and learnsomething new if you guys want morefashion inspo definitely subscribe soyou don't
